The men from the Vaal believe they have a point to prove in the 2024 Varsity Men’s Football competition and the feeling within the VUT Men’s Football camp is that this is their season. MaVUTi captain Kgotso Nhlapo is confident that they can can go all the way in South Africa’s premier university football competition
“It’s another opportunity for us to try to win the competition and I feel that with the squad that we have there’s a good chance of winning this year’s Varsity Football,” said Nhlapo.
“We have a huge chance of winning this year's edition and like I said with the new squad we have now we are lifting the cup.”
Mavuti’s confidence is not without base as the men from Vaal are no strangers in the competition having been present in the past three consecutive editions, this year, being their fourth participation in a row and fifth time showing since they arrived at this stage for the first time in 2015.
VUT will be constantly referring to their notebooks to draw inspiration from the lessons they have learnt from their talisman Ntokozo Mgidi over the years as the contributions of their star has become history.
“We learned a lot from ‘Cream’ (Ntokozo Mgidi) but the most important factor we learnt from him is self confidence. That guy was a very confident guy and he was fearless” added Nhlapo.
Only time will tell what VUT’s final fate will be, but being the only team representing Joburg this season, the men from the Vaal are promising to be a side to be keen on.
