Vote for the Varsity Netball 2024 FNB Player of the Tournament!

A new champion will be crowned when the Varsity Netball 2024 final takes place on Monday 7, October where UFS Kovsies will take on UJ at the Callie Human Hall in Bloemfontein. Before we find out which of those netball powerhouses lifts the trophy it's that time of the tournament where we acknowledge the outstanding players this season and put it to the public to vote for the stars they think should be recognised as the FNB Player Of The Tournament. The winner will receive a a cheque for R10 000 from FNB.

The process to determine the nominees is as follows: the head coaches of all eight participating teams were asked to nominate three exceptional players during the tournament and were not allowed to nominate a player from their own team. The nominees were weighted with first position worth three points, second position two points and third position one point. The total points were then calculated and the three players with the highest points are now being put forward to the public, whose votes will determine the winner.

Here are the nominees.

Cornelia Mupenda:  The UJ captain and GK/GD is in her fourth Varsity Netball season and brings with her a wealth of experience and leadership qualities taking the Orange Army to their second successive final. She won the FNB Player of the Match award in their game against Madibaz and her role model is her mom. She is currently studying Public Relations and Communications.

Sunel Smit: The 191cm tall NWU goal attack has picked up no less than three FNB Player of The Match awards, a testament to her crucial role in the Eagles success at the net this season. This is her third varsity netball tournament while studying for a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree. Her role model is Nick Vujicic and she has played TNL netball.

Rolene Streutker:  Kovsies have scored the most goals in the tournament this year and are in the final. A huge part of that is due to the accuracy and commanding presence of Rolene at the net. She is a powerhouse on attack for UFS and recently signed a contract in England off a fantastic season playing in the Australian league. She earned two FNB Player of The Match awards at this year’s varsity netball competition.

The public can cast their votes from Tuesday, 1 October until Friday, 4 October at 1pm. The winner will be the player with the most votes at the deadline and will be announced after the final on Monday 7th October.

The winner will receive a cheque from FNB for R10 000.
