CUT confident ahead of 2024 Varsity Men’s Football

The CUT Men’s Football squad are geared for another exciting edition of Varsity Men’s Football when they get their campaign underway at home on Thursday, 25 July at home against the DUT Men’s Football. CUT have had their issues in preparing for the upcoming campaign, but they remain upbeat and confident that they can turn in a better performance than last year, albeit they were satisfied with their 2023 season.

Home ground advantage for their opening game is a big bonus, but it’s important to make the most of that and get off to a flying start. CUT coach, Patrick Malokase, said they are no doubt very excited to play in the popular competition again, and despite having some troubles in preparing they want to do better and they are confident that they can.

“We are foreseeing a very exciting Varsity Football competition this year, and we are looking good and want to start well,” said Malokase.

“This was a very difficult year for us, to be honest, with a lot of strikes in between the preparations, but despite this, I believe we are in a good space at the moment. The team is looking good.

Malokase added that it’s always important to strive to be better than a previous campaign and he is confident that his charges are more than capable of achieving that.

“We had a good tournament last year. Not so bad. But we are aiming to improve on our performance from last year. This is going to be very exciting. We are good, and we know there are exciting teams out there, such as the University of the Free State,” he said.

“Then, we also welcome back a team like the University of Pretoria. Look, we are expecting it to be very challenging, but that’s what we're looking forward to the upcoming challenges.

“We are ready and everything in the camp is looking good.”

CUT kick off their campaign against DUT on Thursday 25 July at CUT Stadium (18:30).
