On 10 August 2017, UJ aim to redeem themselves against the defending champions TUT. It’s a repeat of last season’s Varsity Football final and TUT are looking good in the quest to defend their title.
Tshwane University of technology (TUT) has had a great start to the season opener of the 2017 Varsity Football season, drawing their first game at home against their neighbours Tuks (1-1) and winning their second game against The University of Fort Hare (UFH) 7-0 with their star player Temba Ndlovu bagging a brace.
TUT look to be firm favourites ahead of the Thursday game, opposite a UJ team that has had a slow start to their campaign.
Coach Mandla Zwane has acknowledged the individual brilliance that TUT has in their arsenal but humbly mentions that TUT is a team with great synergy, and have the potential to upset any team in the tournament.
“We can’t pay special attention to one player (Ndlovu). We expect a tough battle against the Pretoria boys.”
The UJ team has shown great spirit and character since losing the season opener to Central University of Technology (CUT). Beating Tuks 1-0 on the road has them back on track. It was a hard fought win against a Tuks side that beat UJ (3-0) at home last season. Last year’s finalists face each other again in what will be a Thursday night thriller. Can UJ upset the champions, or will TUT earn their second win of the season?
The UJ team will be a different team at home, aiming to take full advantage of the home ground advantage. There’s no doubt that this is the game to watch. Be sure not to miss the crunching tackles, the sizzling skills and dramatic goals.
