A deflected shot two minutes into the game, forced last year’s runners up, TUT, to share the spoils with new comers University of Limpopo (UL). The two sides locked horns in an affair that was dubbed the clash of the week last night, 02 August, in Polokwane.
Although TUT used all the tricks possible in the book of offensive football, credit goes to the hosts who really went all out to protect their “God given” goal when the match started.
TUT captain, Elliot Seema, came through to score the equaliser 15 minutes into the second half from a long throw, forcing his way into a rock solid UL defence to bring his side back into the match.
According to Godfrey Mohlala, who received an award for the Samsung Moment of Brilliance, the team was not productive during the first half. The goal they conceded had put them under a lot of pressure. He says although they managed to get a goal in the second half, they missed several chances, which resulted in a draw. “For our upcoming matches we will have to be focused and have a sense of urgency from the onset till the end whistle,” Godfrey says.
According to Elliot the team was too relaxed in the first half hence they couldn’t penetrate their opponents defence. In the second half they got the equaliser, but failed to get the winning goal.
Coach Bushy Moloi, believes that this was a different and difficult game, especially after a win against University of Pretoria. “As I said before, the UP game made it difficult for us because the boys came here, underestimating their opponents. However, we managed to get a point, which is very important as we are traveling every time,” he said.
Bushy adds he was impressed with the team’s come-back. He is convinced they could have scored a lot more goals, “They hit the post twice and missed all follow-ups.”
Kegoikantse Kgomo, TUT Senior Sport Organiser, said it was a fair game with a lot of missed chances. “The boys gave their all despite falling behind in the 1st minute of the game. We realise it will not be easy to play all our games away and be victorious, but we are up for the challenge,” he adds.
