Kgomotso Mashilwane scored two goals to secure TUT’s fifth consecutive Varsity Women’s Football final.
It was a relatively quiet first half with both teams making sure to keep their midfield tight and their defence solid, and even though they had their fair share of chances, it was a stalemate going into half time.
Tuks had an immense chance in the second half after an error by goalkeeper Mapaseka Mpuru, but TUT’s defenders were strong enough to clear the ball from danger. TUT kept testing Tuks’s defence, with Kgomotso Mashilwane finally finding her way to the back of the net to put TUT 1-0 ahead with ten minutes left of play.
Almost immediately Thalea Smidt struck for Tuks, but Mpho Monangwe made an essential save to deny her entry and keep her team 1-0 up. Kgomotso Mashilwane put the final nail in Tuks’s coffin when she scored her second goal to cement TUT’s spot in the final.
TUT are set to take on UWC in the final taking place on Thursday 27 September in Johannesburg.
