UP-Tuks claimed their sixth Varsity Netball victory when they emphatically beat VUT 88-30, and pick up a bonus point, in Pretoria.
The result handed the Vaal ladies their sixth defeat and sees them end the campaign in seventh place, after picking up just one victory. Tuks, on the other hand, continued their winning momentum and have booked their spot in the semifinals.
Tuks raced into a commanding 14-2 lead early in the encounter and continued to display their dominance by taking a commanding 22-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
VUT showed plenty of fight at the start of the second quarter as they quickly added four points to their total but the Tuks managed to score eight of their own to stretch their lead to 30-8. Tuks continued to score freely and keep their opponents out as the lead grew to 37-11 as half-time approached.
The home side added a further six points to their total as the half came to an end with them holding a mammoth 43-11 lead over VUT.
Tuks rang the changes at the start of the third quarter but their intensity remained high as they quickly brought up their bonus point and called for the first powerplay of the match with the score sitting at 52-14.
Both sides managed two scores as the powerplay ended with Tuks leading VUT 56-18. The points continued to rain in Pretoria as the third quarter ended with the home side holding a 63-23 lead.
Tuks added one point per minute at the start of the final quarter and conceded just three to hold a 71-26 lead with seven minutes remaining in the match.
Tuks added a further nine points before the second play was called and continued to rack up the points to ultimately claim the 58 point victory.
