Third TUT player signs for PSL club

Former TUT Varsity Football captain, Elliot Seema, has signed for Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, Highlands Park FC. He made his first official debut for Highlands Park FC in a 2-all draw against Maritzburg United FC on Friday, 9 November 2018, coming on as a substitute in the 63rd minute for Mahlatse Makhudubela.

“I was quite nervous before I ran out for Highlands FC for the first time but once I stepped onto the field, all doubt was removed. I can only improve from here on out,” Seema told varsitysportssa.com.

After lifting the 2016 Varsity Football trophy for TUT, Seema had a brief run at Polokwane City FC in 2016/17 season. He then decided to return to TUT in 2018 to further his studies and assist coach Bushy Moloi and his team to reclaim the 2018 Varsity Football trophy after finishing runners-up in 2017. Seema is excited about his future at his new club. “There is a positive energy all around and I am so happy to be playing in the PSL again. Second chances are very rare, and I am grateful I got one.”

After his sterling performance in the 2018 Varsity Football competition, which included beating rivals UP-Tuks in the semi-finals, Highlands Park FC signed the defender. “I have played for TUT in Varsity Football for four seasons and it has given me great experience. If it wasn’t for Varsity Sports, I would not be where I am now. However, I continue to learn every day.”

He has also been a stalwart and ambassador of TUT in the University Sport South Africa (USSA) Football National Club Championships which is the biggest student sport event and organisation of sport at universities, he won the tournament in 2017.

Elliot becomes the third player from TUT in 2018 to be snapped up by a PSL team after Vusi Sibiya and Sikhumbuzo Ncube signed for Baroka FC.
