UCT and UWC played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in their hard-fought Cape derby on the Green Mile.
A late goal from Ikeys striker Louis-Romain Moussi Sopp saw the match end in a stalemate which brings an end to the Varsity Football season for both sides.
The visitors took the game to UCT as they made an energetic start in the warm conditions and pegged the home side back in their own half.
There was no holding back in what was a typically physical derby as both sides looked to stamp their authority on the game.
The Ikeys created a few opportunities on the counter attack, and took something of a surprise lead against the run of play when an unmarked Charlie Mbatha volleyed home at the back post.
They had a chance to extend that lead through a Byron Donaldson header from a corner but it was cleared on the line and UWC found the equaliser soon afterwards as a brilliant run down the left wing from Thulani Mkosi set up striker Curtley Beukes to provide the finishing touch.
However, the Ikeys would take a 2-1 lead into half-time as Michael Salgado got them back in front with a clinical strike from a well-timed run.
The match was all square once more as UWC were first to strike after the break thanks to a header by replacement Keenan Davis.
That set up a tense final quarter as both sides threw absolutely everything at each other in search of the win, and it would be the visitors to strike as Reza Dramat kept his cool to find the back of the net and make it 3-2 to UWC.
However, there would be one final twist as Moussi Sopp came up with a late equaliser following a goalmouth scramble after a corner.
