We are closer to knowing the identity of this year’s finalists as the tournament enters the semi-final stages. Who thought that NWU would be left out of the final four spots? Well, their poor run of form did the talking. Our semi-finalists are UJ, Wits, UP-Tuks and TUT. Only UJ and Wits have not won the competition out of the teams that will be vying for the semis.
UJ 2-0 Wits
On paper the hosts are expected to win this game, but football is a game full of surprises. The mini league winners, UJ, have the backing of their vociferous crowd in the heart of Soweto, South Africa’s biggest township. There is a strong feeling that is their year. Their biggest incentive is a home final and they will do anything not to miss this big opportunity to finally win the competition. Wits have already surprised themselves and a semi-final final spot is a bonus for them. They got this far against all odds and should be proud of their achievement.
UP-Tuks 1-2 TUT
It’s another Tshwane derby and there is lot at stake. The winner will claim the bragging rights and a place in this year’s final. There are two bulls in the kraal but one has to die, while the other marches on to the grand finale. TUT upset Tuks 2-1 in the opening game of the season, but forget about that result. This is a whole new ball game. Throw the form book out of the window. It’s the pick of the semi-final showdowns. TUT are the form team, but Tuks have proved that they have experience in their team. Whoever makes the most of their chances will surely advance to the final. Sparks are set to fly.
