UP-Tuks shot putter Orazio Cremona has high aspirations for this year as he eyes out the Commonwealth games, a top 10 spot in Europe and Varsity Athletics glory.
Cremona recently cracked the qualifying distance for the Commonwealth Games but is still looking to do more this season.
The big Tuks man has worked hard in the off season, sacrificing plenty in his personal life to make sure that this is the year that catapults him to successes.
“I’ve had to sacrifice plenty, a lot of youthful exploits had to go down the drain, no more going out no more partying.
“I train Friday, Saturdays – Sunday is my only rest day, but I have put in a really good off season.
“I’ve got myself mentally right and physically right – no matter what I knew I would do well this season,” Cremona said
Cremona did exceptionally well in Port Elizabeth when he qualified for the Commonwealth Games with a seasons best put of an exceptional 20.58m – a personal best.
“A personal best is always good to take them when they come, whether it’s a centimetre or 10 centimetres its always impressive.
“I qualified for the Commonwealth games, I hope they will take me – SASCOC has still got to decide so hopefully they will take me.
“I have some heavy goals for this year, I want to establish myself in Europe, and try break into the top 10, I also want to try and win Africa Champs and get a medal at Commonwealth.
“I have got quite a lot of ambitions – but you know, if you don’t have ambition there is no use in doing the sport,” he said.
Cremona will be throwing Discus this Monday for Tuks at the UJ meet and even though it is not his main event, he hopes he can get some points for the Varsity.
“It’s not my main event but im going to try get it done just for the Varsity, in the end it may be about yourself but its also for the University so im going to try get some points.
“I will throw shot put again in Stellenbosch, which is one of my favourite grounds, so hopefully I can get another good distance – a PB would be great.
“Im in tough training right now but hopefully i can pull through and get a good one,” he concluded.
